Saving a Child's Vision

(Submitted by one of our valued patients)

I have been Dr. Lee’s patient for a long time. She is really good at not only taking care of the eyes, but other health issues as well.

When my daughter was three or four years old, we noticed that she was having trouble seeing. Because she was so young, I was very concerned, but I trusted Dr. Lee to make sure she got the help she needed.

I turned out that my daughter had myopia and astigmatism. Over the next four or five years the conditions kept getting worse. We tried hybrid contact lenses, we tried reading glasses, we tried regular glasses, but the condition was uncontrollable. Her myopia and the astigmatism both kept going up so we started looking at other options.

At that point, Dr. Lee referred us to the Turner Eye Institute for corneal cross-linking. Dr. Lee lined everything up with Turner and guided us through the process of what procedure to get and when. They did it first in one eye and, since she showed significant progress and the deterioration was slowed. As a result, we did the other eye as well. During the time between the first and second eye, the procedure had improved so that instead of taking thirty minutes like the first eye, the second only took five.

The treatment produced a big improvement in her quality of life. Vision affects everything you do. As a parent, of course, I am concerned about her being able to see so she does well in school, but as a kid there is also reading and watching TV and going out with her friends. She is now able to function normally in life, the deterioration has halted and she can get by with just a pair of soft contacts.

As a parent, you go through a lot of stress whenever something is wrong and you are not sure what it is, how to prevent it or what options are available. I am very grateful I had Doctor Lee to help us out with this. She was able to correctly diagnose what was happening and recommend the best treatment. And, as a parent herself, she is very patient and understands children and so was able to clearly explain everything to my daughter.

I am so glad that I put my trust in Dr. Lee. It has made a huge difference in my daughter’s life and has been such a help for our entire family. I would recommend her to others without a doubt.
