Children's Exam

Children’s Vision Care & Exam Services in Santa Clara, San Jose & Throughout the Bay Area, CA

(Ages 0-100+)

Common Symptoms of Vision Problems:

1. Frequent eye rubbing

2. Sitting close to the TV

3. Headaches when watching TV/reading

4. Squinting or tilting head to see

5. Closing one eye to read or watch TV

The American Optometric Association and the American Medical Association now recommend that children receive their first eye exam by age 9 months. It is important that the children see their pediatrician and eye doctor as well. The pediatrician will look at the general health of the eyes but will not look at muscle imbalance and prescription problems. We provide family eye care services for both adults and children.

It is important to detect any visual disorders and problems early so there will not be any permanent developmental vision problems resulting from undetected eye problems. Children should have the chance to learn at their full capacity. Children with undiagnosed eye disorders are more likely to have to repeat a grade level in school, have behavior problems, be diagnosed with ADD, and perform below their intellectual abilities. Schedule a vision care appointment for your child with 20/20 Optometry of Silicon Valley.

Does Your Child Need An Eye Exam?

Vision problems in children are quite common and can be hard to detect on your own. Research shows that around 10% of preschoolers and 25% of school-aged children have vision disorders. Now you may wonder, how will I know when to take my child in for an eye exam? According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), your child should have their first eye exam at six months, their second exam at three years, their third before kindergarten, and every one to two years after that. If your child has special risk factors, your eye doctor may recommend more frequent exams.

At 20/20 Optometry, we offer high-quality family eye care services. Our friendly team will ensure your children are comfortable throughout their entire visit. Scheduling routine comprehensive eye exams will better help us monitor your children's eyes and detect eye conditions such as glaucoma or dry eyes in the early stages. Give us a call today to schedule an appointment. We proudly offer vision care services to those in Santa Clara, San Jose, CA, and the surrounding areas.

Helping Our Community One Child at a Time

We launched this program, of giving back to the children in our community of San Jose, in 2003 when there were many financial challenges to families around us. Children are our future of tomorrow and we wanted them to have the opportunity to reach for their dreams without having their vision affecting their quality of life, especially in school.

Our solution to this problem was to donate eye exams and glasses to underprivileged kids, foster kids, or children of families with financial hardships. Eye examinations and glasses are provided once annually to each child that qualifies for this program.

Through the partnership with our patients we have improved the lives of valuable members of our community.

Our mission is to enhance children's quality of life by detecting and correcting vision problems so that they can reach their full potential in life.
